Poppy Appeal

The first annual Poppy Appeal was held on 11th November 1921, it was inspired by a poem 'In Flanders Fields' written by Joel McCrae.

Each year the Royal British Legion holds its annual Poppy Appeal to raise funds for its charitable work. Each year the public show their support for our work through their generous support which in 2009 - 2010 raised in excess of £30 million, this money all goes towards the vital welfare work.

As the Poppy Appeal for 2010 to 2011 draws to a close the total raised so far by Dawlish is

£12,515.91

This is an increase on last years total and thanks are due to all those people who have given up their time and energy to raise this amount of money. Thanks are also due to all those other people in the town who have supported this worthy cause.

The Poppy Appeal in Dawlish is organised and co-ordinated by our local organiser with help from the Branch Committee.

However without the help and generosity of members of the public who give up their valuable time to help collecting door to door or by standing out in all weathers with collecting tins we could not raise the amounts that we do. Our local organiser is always looking for 'Poppy People' who can assist in raising funds during the build up to November 11th.

The charity is totally reliant on the generosity of the nation. If you feel you can help in anyway please contact us.
